Big Momma's Chili

Video below for big Momma’s big secrets on making chili

A chili made by my mom, and now by me, hence the name, Big Momma's Chili. Sometimes it feels like chili can be daunting, or maybe that's just me. So many ingredients and all the sauce. SO MUCH SAUCE. But this is just 7 easy ingredients, no mess, and lots of happy eaters. Especially big momma. Because if big momma isn't happy...well, you know the rest.

Ingredients/Recipe:

  • 1-2 lbs. of hamburger

  • 1 -2 cups of tomato juice

  • 1 medium can of tomato sauce

  • 1-2 cans of mild chili beans (depending on how thick you like it)

  • 1 can of crushed tomatoes

  • 1/2-1 cup of brown sugar

  • 2 tsp of cinnamon (or more, to your liking)

Putting it Together:

Brown the hamburger and place in crockpot. Add chili beans, crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, and brown sugar, and then stir together Add tomato juice, the amount based on how thick or soupy you like your chili. Then, sprinkle cinnamon on top and stir one last time Place on low for 3-4 hours.

Serving:

If you are my father, serve with 15 pounds of crackers, otherwise, serve as you see fit (solo, crackers, cheese, sour cream, etc.).

Load of Crock Tip(s):

  • This is also super good with corn bread, slathered in butter

  • The brown sugar and cinnamon may initially scare you, but I promise the sweet with the salty tomato taste will not disappoint

Whether big momma or otherwise, this chili aims to please all!
