Crockpot Little Smokies

Video below on the three essential Bs appetizer…and four if you count me.

Hello friends! I cannot believe as I write, we are less than 2 weeks away from ringing in 2023, and prior to that, all the various holiday celebrations. Crazy! What is time, really? On the note of time, so happy to share another quick and easy 2- minute make with you all leading up to the holidays and new year! This is (another) long time favorite of mine that is a perfect, 4-ingredient, appetizer or side dish for any holiday and new years gatherings. Or, in our house, any random Tuesday evening. This one includes what I feel to be the three essential Bs for many recipes, and no, Betsy is not one of them- barbecue sauce, brown sugar, and beer. But let’s say 4 if you want to count me.

 Ingredients/Recipe:

  • 2 packages of your favorite little smokies

  • 1 cup of brown sugar

  • 3/4 cup of barbecue sauce

  • A can or bottle of your favorite light beer

 Putting it Together in the Crockpot:

Mix the little smokies, brown sugar and barbecue sauce all together in the crockpot. Then, start with adding in a little of the beer, and give another stir. Add more if you would like to "loosen up" the mixture more/use the beer as you desire to get to the thickness you would like for your sauce, knowing you can adjust once they are cooked (see below in the 'Load of Crock Tips'). Place on low for 2 hours and then move to warm.

 Serving

You can eat these right away, but I prefer to let them sit on warm for an hour or so, to really let everything soak in. I love these as an appetizer, especially for gatherings with others, but if I am being honest, have also eaten alone as it’s own meal. No judging. If you put out in a bowl or on a plate, I always like to sprinkle with a little extra brown sugar, but serving directly from the crock is perfect, too!

 Load of Crock Tip(s):

  • If you can't find little smokies, or don't care for them, grab a couple packages or your favorite hot dogs, or turkey dogs, cut them up, and follow the rest of the recipe all the same.

  • Once the 2 hours are on low are done, take a look at the thickness of your BBQ, brown sugar, and beer mix- if you want it a little thicker, add in some more brown sugar, or if it looks too thick and you want to loosen it up, add in some more beer. And then give it a mix and let it sit for awhile on warm.

 As we look to wrap up 2023, I want to extend my sincerest gratitude to all of you for subscribing, watching, commenting, sharing with others, using Load of Crock recipes, all of it. I am so appreciative of every single one of you and your engagement, and so excited to keep things moving in the new year, some fun and exciting things to share! Wishing you all a safe, fun, and memorable holiday season, and the same for the new year! Thank you all for being a part of our Load of Crock community!
